- —Hunts loosely in small packs rather than alone, often holding tight to the deepest channel or drop-off in a drain or river rather than roaming the margins
- —Has notably soft, toothy jaws prone to hook pulls — this shapes hook and rig choice as much as species behaviour does
- —More consistently active through winter than many predators, provided the water carries some colour
A genuine low-light specialist — dusk-into-dark sessions are the classic approach, and coloured winter water is often more productive than clear summer conditions.
